A little about me...

My name is Ellen DuBois. I am the author of I Never Held You, a book about miscarriage, grief, healing and recovery and host of MiscarriageHelp.com, a support site for women and their families who have suffered the pain of miscarriage. Creating both miscarrige awareness and support is one of my passions in life and I've been doing it since 2006. To all those who have suffered a miscarriage, or sadly more than one, I am deeply sorry for your loss.

I am also a private piano instructor to students ranging in age from 5-15. I've always loved music, was raised in a musical family and enjoy sharing the joy of music with my students. I feel blessed to be able to teach them.

Additionally, I am the creator of Hope Angel Bracelets, available on etsy and through my website. Creating these pretty bracelets with inspirational messages of hope, faith, healing and more is another outlet for my creativity. They give people an emotional and spiritual lift and that's one of the primary reasons I love making them.

I live in Massachusetts with my rescue dog, Cooper and my fiance. I am fortunate to live near my two wonderful sisters, my father and nieces and nephews. We lost my mother in January of 2015 and together we find the comfort and strength to get through. She is missed- very much.

Activities: (Other than writing, supporting, teaching and jewelry making!) I am often the co pilot with my fiance on rescue flights to save dogs, (primarily), by flying them from high kill shelters to forever families, rescues and fosters in the Northeast. It's a very rewarding experience, both emotionally and spiritually. Knowing you've helped save an innocent dog, (or dogs), and seeing them unite with their new family fills my heart. It's amazing and I'm proud to do my part, even if it's small. I often record the rescue flights and post them on You Tube, etc. Creating awareness is key to more people volunteering and assisting. -See more on my page at: the NAPW, National Association of Professional Women.

More from Ellen: Hello. I'm Ellen M. DuBois, author of
I Never Held You: Miscarriage, Grief, Healing and Recovery and Host of MiscarriageHelp.com, the companion support site to my book. Please visit if you need support after miscarriage, want to connect with others and/or share your feelings. I know how lonely it can be after losing a baby to miscarriage. That’s why MiscarriageHelp.com has been around since 2006. I believe it supporting each other through the days, months, weeks, even years after miscarriage. You don’t need to suffer in silence.

Why did I write I Never Held You: Miscarriage, Grief, Healing and Recovery and why host MiscarriageHelp.com?
Having experienced a miscarriage myself, I know first-hand the pain, isolation and often dismissive attitudes which accompany miscarriage. I am here to do my part in bringing miscarriage support and awareness to light.

I remember going into bookstores searching for something to assure me I wasn't alone in my struggle. Nothing was available back then, (please note, this was twenty-years ago). Every time I searched through a maze of books, I'd find ones about having a baby- not losing one- especially not to miscarriage. There were some books on losing a child already born to this earth. But, what about those who never got to see or hold our babies?

So, I wrote my book and started MiscarriageHelp.com. These two things were born out of a need deep within myself to reach out to others. I didn't want any woman to feel as alone and unsure of herself as I did after miscarrying. In the process of writing my book, I helped myself. By sharing my story, I literally began to heal more and more- even eleven years after my miscarriage, (which is when I began writing about it). You'd think the healing would have been over. It wasn't. It's a process, and it's still underway. I had to accept a new normal. Losing my baby to miscarriage became part of my life. Learning to live with it was an entirely new and sadly, unexpected path my feet were placed upon.

Speaking of paths, I believe we all have a path in life, and miscarriage was part of mine. Had I not lived through the pain, I'd have nothing to offer in terms of empathy. Would I want to live through it again? No way. However, when looking at my life, I clearly see how adversity and pain were transmuted into strength and support. I am grateful. I am grateful for the opportunity to use the world-wide platform called the Internet to reach out to women and their families who have lost babies to miscarriage. I am grateful for providing a place of comfort, bonding and support through my website. I am grateful to have book published.

The tears I cried left room for healing and joy to fill my life, although, I will always have a special place in my heart for my son, Alex. Without him and his brief yet powerful stay with me, I wouldn't be here right now talking to you about my path towards healing and recovery after miscarriage. He gave me this gift, and I will not ignore his voice from Heaven as he speaks to my soul and says, “I love you. Please take what you've learned and use it to help others.”

A bit about me: I was born in a small town in Massachusetts. The seventies and eighties were my 'growing up' time, although I've found it to be a never-ending process. I love music, was the lead singer in a wedding band for three years and now teach beginner piano to thirty-plus students. They range in age from five to teens and are all lights in my life. I've had two cards published with Blue Mountain Arts and several gift products with them and feel incredibly blessed. I waited a long time for it to happen, and when it did I was walking on air.

I still reside in another small town in Massachusetts with Charlie, my fiancé, and my best, little buddy Cooper the Rescue Dog.

I'm the middle child of three girls, and you know what they say about us middle children. I don't know if it's all true, but some of it certainly applies to me! My parents were/ are fabulous people, (my mother passed away in January 2015 and is deeply missed), both musicians and music teachers who have touched and inspired many through their gifts. God has truly blessed me with a loving, fun, somewhat 'quirky' family. Hey, I wouldn't fit in anywhere else!

I am currently working on several writing projects, keeping up with my miscarriage support blog daily, and constantly learning and growing as I traverse the path through this thing called life.

Many Blessings to all of you, and to those who have miscarried, I am deeply sorry for your loss.

"My miscarriage book, I Never Held You: Miscarriage, Grief, Healing and Recovery, miscarriage support site, (http://miscarriagehelp.com) and my contribution to Jenna Glatzer’s Conquering Anxiety book, are very close to my heart. Having miscarried over 20 years ago, (never dreaming I'd write a book about it), I felt inspired by the my son’s spirit, God and the angels to write I Never Held You, which grew from a small, popular ebook (DLSIJPress.com), to a full length self-help paperback, (same publisher), with invaluable contributions by Dr. Linda Backman, Anna Pizzoferrato, Marnie Pehrson and MaryBeth Foster. I Never Held You gained an even bigger audience when it was published again through CreateSpace in 2009.

From the beginning, I Never Held You wasn't something I planned- the idea hit and hit hard. I knew that God wanted me to share my personal journey of pain and loss with others-turning life’s adversity into something positive. I think I’ve done it, and will always continue my efforts because they’re an extension of me.

"Poetry and lyrics are like air to me. If I feel something, I write it. People ask me how I do it so 'quickly'. I just say: If you have something to say, you say it and I write it! I believe we ALL have gifts to share with each other - finding them, exploring them and daring to put yourself out there for the world to see is what life's about- to me."
